Before I code In python for 10 hours straight I wanted to make a journal. Felt a little cute, wacky, silly, etc. It's been a long time since I've made a post that wasn't just a meme or 5 letters max or something

So I've been checking consistently again, since I've been like drawing more In general and all. When someone favorites your stuff you can see their gallery without explicitly checking their profile, which gives artists exposure simply via supporting other people. The things I hate about the site now aside, which I'll get to, I quite enjoy It

When I see art I like I also have been trying to comment more. For years people not really commenting on art has been an "Issue" so to speak. I obviously get why. Most chronically online people have anxieties of some kind about talking to other people. And It's really hard to describe what you like about work besides "I just think It's good". Whenever I get that "send a friendly hello" prompt I always look at It. Art Is hard, so while others may get annoyed by this, I appreciate the attempt to help kickstart new accounts

I would think most artists struggle with self esteem Issues and I know It boosts the dopamine to actually directly receive words, rather than just quickly putting It Into their favorites or what have you. For this reason I've also displayed my main favorites folder on my profile. I would like to share the art I like as well

I've been unsure on explicitly mentioning It but I am also on pixiv and there are some things on there I've posted that I haven't here ( the opposite Is also true )

There's things I vastly prefer on pixiv despite It being a japanese website. Much less of the basic features are monetized for example. "Bookmarks" are pixiv's equivalent to dA's favorites. Along with It, you can give likes to works as well. You can add tags to pixiv bookmarks and you get to bookmark things privately for free. It makes collecting artwork a lot easier

Pixiv too has Its downsides though. One of the big things that actually Is monetized Is editing your artwork after posting. On one hand I can understand why, but as artists sometimes have to fix mistakes, It does sucks and makes me not want to post sometimes. I do like pixiv, so I didn't entirely mind paying for premium just for that

You also get Clip Studio Paint Debut when you buy premium. An entire art program for 3 dollars minimum technically. Pretty cool If you haven't already settled on something, and a way to fully get a taste of CSP without paying a million dollars and the restriction of the trial

Pixiv doesn't have gallery folders unfortunately. It does however, let you Include multiple Images In one post, which Is one of the main things I like. I don't really want to post 3 things I made In a day all separately on dA. Some way to "link" deviations together here would be appreciated

I'm not going to entertain the reason why I was Inactive; no one cares and other people do It all the time. I'm pretty sure anyone who would read this Is someone who didn't watch me or know I existed until recently. I simply wasn't drawing that much and majority of my friends here have moved on for the same reasons. I just want to further vent about my problems with dA

Eclipse was received pretty poorly by the community If I recall, and while I've gotten used to It now, I'll always prefer the previous design. I find It funny there are areas of the site that use It still. There's nothing wrong with modern, flat Interfaces like this. I quite like them. But a lot of the elements feel too large. Even now as I'm writing this journal, space Is wasted on both sides and the text Is confined Into about half of the screen size for no real reason

One of the only things Eclipse specifically has brought that like Is the ability to like comments, for reasons explained below:

It was about time

dA allowing AI art and even having a ( lame ) generator within the site Is straight up dog water and I don't understand why we are collectively allowing AI art to coexist with real art other than It being the new trendy trend buzzword fad. Like come on now. I've already made a status update about It but It still truly flabbers my gast

While I praised pixiv, It also decided to do the big bad. On both sites I have It disabled and just hope for the best. Now that I think about It, I feel like since It could be hard to tell whether or not something was AI generated, they simply decided to allow It. Yes people could just Ignore It, but I'm sure there's some psychology behind better results If you give them the option to explicitly say It was AI art, rather than just hoping people don't post AI generated things

dA subscription Is shoved In your face a little too much, but that's to be expected. I go to the home page and there are four separate Instances of them telling me to upgrade to core or...pro? What's the difference between those again? The site generally manages to feel more bloated what with fragments and badges ( not to be confused with profile badges!!! ) which are just reddit awards ( RIP to those by the way. Some may find them dumb but they were Iconic In my opinion ). And does anyone genuinely legitimately use the "change background" feature on a deviation? I have to wonder why things like that are even there. Other than them just being able to say "you can do this. that's cool right? right?"

At the risk of sounding unpleasant I don't like the random deviation ads In the top right corner when looking at something either. dA has always made a deal out of letting people purchase stuff on deviations right. A lot of the time though It feels like the poster going "sure I guess" rather than legitimately making something with the Intent of getting someone to buy It

Last thing I bought on here was a really nice looking cursor pack. I'd rather get ads for things like that, brushes, anything remotely like that. Instead of random artwork. Not to mention a lot of the monetization for deviants they locked behind core when I'm pretty sure that wasn't the case. Maybe legitimately good stuff does show up? I'm not saying anyone Is objectively bad for enabling It or buying things with It enabled, It's just really strange to me

People uploading random bs like screenshots or generally anything they did not actually make because they don't seem to realize status updates exist or think this Is social media was always a problem, but somehow It feels even more prevalent. Even though pixiv does have Its flaws you pretty much never see stuff like that there. It feels like people are actually there for the art Instead of to be annoying. Pixiv Is niche In a way I can't really describe. Like there was a point In time where I didn't know the website existed. I think I discovered It when I found saucenao. Japanese artists are crazy, and unless they also post on Twitter It was primarily where a lot of the "good" art that people repost everywhere came from originally

Is that all? I can't think of much more to say. I figure anyone like me who enjoys seeing content from their artists other than just the art they post would appreciate It

I'll probably find this cringe and delete It a week-month later or something. Hopefully no one feels an obligation to respond here. I just wanted to talk about some of the stuff on my mind about the site lately
